Superfoods come in a wide variety, from different types of nuts to spices and seeds. However, let me introduce you to another small but essential source of nutrients: garden cress seeds.
Garden cress seeds, which have many nutritional properties and health advantages, are called Haleem seeds in Hindi and are sometimes referred to as Halim or aliv seeds.
These little red seeds contain iron, folate, fibre, vitamins C, A, and E, and protein. Let's discuss the benefits and importance of halim seeds during periods and how to consume them.
The tiny, oval-shaped, pointed, reddish-brown seeds known as Halim or aliv seeds are from a medicinal plant called garden cress. Their flavour and perfume are sour and peppery, similar to mustard seeds.
Lepidium sativum, sometimes known as garden cress, is a plant that can be eaten raw. Its roots, seeds, and other parts of the plant are all utilized medicinally.
Chemicals in garden cress leaves and seeds can reduce blood sugar and could also help fight certain viruses and bacteria.
Halim seeds, sometimes called garden cress seeds, are believed to help with fertility. They contain compounds that imitate the hormone estrogen, which controls the menstrual cycle. Keeping menstrual cycles regular is crucial for pregnancy planning.
Halim seeds are a powerhouse of plant-based protein, essential vitamins (A, B, C, and E), minerals like calcium, iron, magnesium, potassium, omega-3 fatty acids, and fibre.
There is little information on how safe Halim seeds are to eat while pregnant. Certain sources suggest high dosages may have mild uterine-stimulatory effects.
Consuming them in moderation is advised, especially after the first trimester. Pregnant women and people with thyroid problems should consult their doctor before including them in their diet.
Halim seeds are very nutritious and provide several health benefits for women.
Soak 1 teaspoon (5 g) of seeds overnight and consume them with lemon juice the next day. Gradually increase the quantity to 15 g. Consuming halim seed water 3–4 times a month may improve haemoglobin levels and help treat anemia.
Aliv seeds are nutrient-rich and support menstrual health, hormonal balance, skin, hair, and overall wellness when consumed in moderation as part of a balanced diet.
